First Egg at Osprey Nest!
After it was confimed that the Osprey's occupying
the nest at Bassenthwaite were infact the same pair
that have been visiting the site since 2001, they
have again started up a family for the coming year.
Birdwatchers spotted an egg in the nest which was
thought to have been layed on Monday evening.
Chances are that more eggs will follow as the pair
in total have raised seven chicks.
Since their arrival in the Lake District some five
years ago, the birds have drawn a huge amount of
interest to the county. This year already has brought record numbers to the viewpoints at Dodd wood & Whinlatter Forest during the Easter weekend.
These birds were the first to re-colonise England for some 150 years and
it is hoped that more will follow.
