Red Squirrels Scoup £600,000!

A £600,000 award was given to the
Northumberland Wildlife Trust (NWT) to help with
the setup and upkeep of the red squirrels nature
reserve.

Red squirrels are currently under threat of extinction
in the UK so this money should help reinforce
strongholds from the encroaching Grey Squirrel.

The money was awarded from the Heritage Lottery
Fund and will be used to employ 15 land managers
to help protect these conservation areas.

These managers will be used to monitor and protect these special areas for years to come.

The areas are located in Northumberland at Harwood Forest, Kidland Forest, Kielder Forest, Kyloe, Raylees and Uswayford as well as Dipton, Hayley and Slaley Forest near the Tyne Valley.

Some of the money will be used to create hides for visitors to watch these creatures in their natural environment without actually disturbing them. Web cameras will also be setup for people to watch them from home or at their office.
