Hi-Tech Help For Bassenthwaite Lake

A new computer model has been launched
to identify land that has a high risk of putting
Phosphates into Bassenthwaite Lake near Keswick.

It has been a while now that scientists have proven that the lake was being slowly poisoned by these chemicals which is home to some of the best wildlife in Cumbria and the UK such as Ice age Vendace fish and the famous Ospreys that nest by the lake and use it as a source of food for them and their chicks.

The new program identifies areas around the lakes catchment area that are at risk to polluting the lake.

The project is working closely with farmers in the area to help reduce the risks of pollution into the lake and hopefully return it to its natural state.
