Climber Dies In 100ft Plunge

A climber has died after he fell 100ft down an icy

slope in the Lake District.

A woman from the same party was also injured in the

fall in the southern Lakes. Mountain Rescue teams
were in attendance.

The climber Colin James, who came from Leeds, was out walking with a party of people attempting to ascend The Old Man Of Coniston on Friday 17th March when he lost his footing and slipped.

A woman was also caught up in the fall and was air lifted to safety by the RAF helicopter which was later grounded due to damage to the air craft.

The Duddon Furness Mountain Rescue team who were in attendance used sledges to bring the body of the deceased down from the fells.

The Dudden Mountain Rescue Team is urging people to carry the right equipment to deal with the snow and ice conditions on the fells!
