Hunt is on for elusive creature!

Wildlife rangers in the Lake District National are on the hunt for an elusive creature that is thought to be extinct in England.
The rangers are concentrating their search for Pine Martins in and around Grizedale Forest in the southern Lake District.

These creatures disappeared from England at the beginning of the 19th century and now they are generally found only in Scotland.

Pine Martins are carnivores and spend most of their time in trees so the idea is to create treetop hideaways for them in the forest canopy to encourage their numbers.

These hideaways were designed by the Vincent Wildlife Trust which is based in Scotland and has been proven to increase the Pine Martins numbers.

They are similar to Ferrets and Stoats in appearance but their greater size makes them stand out.
