New 'Hadrian's Wall' to stop English invaders

The preservation of the Red Squirrel stronghold in Scotland gained a major boost by the announcement of a new barrier separating Scotland from England. The last person to attempt this was the roman Hadrian some 2000 years ago when he built his wall.
The barrier itself is not something you can touch, but an area stretching from the west coast to the east coast along the English Scottish border. This area will be patrolled by two wildlife officers who have the power to shoot any grey squirrels seen in this area.

The southern Uplands Partnership has created these new posts for the Dumfries and Galloway area to start almost immediately to prevent the extinction of the red squirrel which is said to be only some 10 years away.

A borders based red squirrel conservation officer is calling the project an ‘imaginary Hadrian’s Wall’.

These new officers will also be involved into research of the pox virus to try and come up with a vaccine.

Meanwhile, the fight to save the red squirrel goes on.
