Scafell Rescue

Mountain rescue teams were called out on Tuesday 24th October at 11.00pm when a woman reported her husband missing after he failed to turn up at the designated time. The man had set out to climb Scafell Pike before returning to Grange.
The teams which involved rescuers from Keswick MRT, Dudden & Furness MRT and Wasdale MRT began the rescue in what were atrocious conditions which were strong winds and heavy rain.

The man who is in his fifties and from the London Area was eventually found after a three hour search, located near Great End at about two o’clock in the morning at the Cross Wall shelter on Esk Hause. He was found wet and cold but in good spirits and after a quick assessment he was brought down from the fell to Wasdale.

His drama started when he got disoriented in the mist and descended into Eskdale using Little Narrow Cove. On realising his mistake he climbed back up to Esk Hause but darkness had then set in and rain began to fall.
