The walker was out to climb Helvellyn via Striding Edge when he has appeared to have lost his footing and fallen.
The 25 year old man from the Ukraine, studying at Lancaster University set out to climb Helvellyn via Striding Edge on Sunday when he slipped and fell.

Striding Edge is one of the Lake Districts most hazardous ridges.

The walker was treated at the scene by Patterdale Mountain Rescue for head injuries and then taken to Cumberland Infirmary.

Take care when out in the fells this time of year. It can get cold & icy underfoot.
