Three New Osprey Chicks

The Lake District has three new osprey chicks for this year even though Fish King, the male osprey, has got a new partner since GreenXS failed to return from their winter stay in Africa.

Fish King has been around since 2001 and has returned every year since. The first two chicks hatched at the beginning of June with the third one a week later.

Hatchings of the chicks normally happens near the end of May but since this female arrived late in the year it seems to be a bit behind which prompted fears of no chicks this year.

Now is a good time to watch the Osprey as it is now that the male will be kept really busy providing fish for the youngsters and his mate. The view points are located across Bassenthwaite Lake in Dodd Wood. There is also a giant screen at Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre which shows pictures from the nest camera.
