Scafell Rescue
A fell walker was rescued from the top of Scafell Pike on the evening Sunday 24th June by mountain rescue volunteers.
The 47-year-old man was part of a group of 3 walkers from the Northeast of England that had set off to climb Scafell Pike from Eskdale where he had sustained a flesh injury to his knee.
The group called '999' on their mobile phone and 13 Wasdale Mountain Rescue members responded. Due to the long carry down from the top to the valley bottom and the shortage of rescue volunteers, extra help was called in from the Dudden & Furness Mountain Rescue.
An RAF Sea King Helicopter was
dispatched from RAF Boulmer which picked up the injured man, his 2 companions
and 3 team members and brought them down to the valley bottom before heading
off to Whitehaven Hospital with the casualty.
