Love Is In The Air
Cumbrias wild life ranges
are to play a vital role in increasing the numbers of rare Tawny owls in the
region.
50 boxes created as nests for the birds are to be put up in and around the
Grizedale Forest for the start of the owls breeding season.
The populations in the Grizedale area have declined lately and it is hoped this project will reverse this decline.
At present there are around 20,000 pairs of Tawny owls in the UK and the birds are the biggest common owl in the UK. The female of the species lay between two and four eggs, normally around April time.
Rangers will monitor the specially designed boxes on a regular basis, looking out for any sign of eggs.
