Tornado Alley in Cumbria

Global Warming with some people is still a grey area and unfounded but when was the last time you saw a Tornado in rural Cumbria?

According to the Met Office these events happen 30-40 times a year and this one was caught on camera near Alston by Ian Pleasant from Blakelaw in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

He said "It was preceded by a massive, black rain cloud and lasted for about 30 minutes before breaking up.

At the Hartside Café, where the photo was took he said "bikers were going berserk with their cameras"

Tornadoes are normally associated with the United States of America and are extremely violent in nature, causing severe damage to property and life.

They are formed by warm moist air rising up to meet cold air. Where this air meets it begins to circulate and form a twister.
